What is your experience in custom home building?

I have been building custom homes on my own since 2002.

What is your design process like?

We are a full design build firm, so from conception, design to handing over the keys, we handle it all.

Do you offer design-build services?

Yes, we offer design-build services!

What is your typical project timeline?

That depends on the scope of the project, but I would say the average is 6 to 7 months.

How do you handle unexpected challenges during construction?

Unexpected things happen all the time in custom building. We know this and will work through issues that arise to find the best possible solutions.

How do you ensure quality control throughout the construction process?

We have walkthroughs on the project at many stages of the build to ensure the product is of the highest quality.

Do you have any certifications or affiliations with professional organizations?

Member of the Home Builders of the Sioux Empire for 20 years. I have also been on the Board for the HBA and Chairman of the Parade of Homes Committee twice.

Budgeting and Financing

What is the average cost of a custom home in your area?

We can’t really say that with any accuracy, as there are so many things that come into play.

How can I get a realistic estimate for my project?

We can get accurate project pricing for our customers once we have a plan completed for the customer.

What are some common cost-saving strategies in custom home building?

Cost savings are things that can be seen by doing things in phases as they can be afforded, simplifying plan designs, lot selection, etc.

Do you offer financing options or work with lenders?

Yes, we will do all of that for the customers if they wish.

How do you manage the budget throughout the construction process?

Our prices are set at the signing of contracts, and the price of the home cannot change unless there is a signed change order or selection allowance deviation. 

Design and Planning

Can you help me with architectural design and floor plans?

Yes, we do all our own drafting in-house and have a designer on staff to help along the way.

How do you incorporate energy-efficient features into your designs?

We typically listen to the customer and what their desires are first, then try to get a plan together for them to get the efficiency where they want it.

Can you design a home that is both stylish and functional?

Years of experience doing the designs have given us the ability to be stylish and functional.

How do you handle zoning and permitting requirements?

Those are all handled by Trademark Homes and completed before a dig ever begins.

What are the latest trends in custom home design?

Trends now are multiple colors for cabinets, millwork, and railings. LVP flooring and even now showers have begun to really pick up.

Construction Process

What is your construction process like?

Put simply, we start by designing a house for our customers, then pricing it, building it, and then handing over the finished product to the customer.

How do you manage subcontractors and suppliers?

We have field staff who work with all the subs and suppliers to manage the project.

How do you ensure the timely completion of the project?

We use quality subs and scheduling via Builder Trend, our computer software, to keep our projects on schedule.

What is your approach to building materials and finishes?

Materials and finishes change all the time, so we try to be fluid with things we use and recommend. We also listen to the customer to get them what they want.

How do you handle change orders and unexpected costs?

Change orders are all handled via Builder Trend, our computer software that tracks all costs, selections, COs, etc. during the build.  

Post-Construction

Do you offer warranty services?

Yes, we have a 1-year warranty on the entire home.

How do you handle warranty claims and repairs?

We have a warranty coordinator who handles the process along with our office manager to make sure all items are processed. 

What is your approach to customer service and satisfaction?

Customer service is extremely important, and we try to give the customers as much support with service as possible.
